The never-ending quest to create the perfect habitat for guinea pig is where the inspiration for C&C Cages was born. Guinea pig parents were realizing pet store cages were no longer working for providing ample room for growth, exercise, interest, and general well-being. In 2003, we set out to provide C&C cage kits for the masses with a versatile habitat that had flexibility to evolve, clean, and adapt to various needs.
The standard grid is 14"x14" and plastic connectors with 1/2" spacing. These were the common, readily available components on the market at the time. However, over the years as the market for guinea pig cages has expanded, so too has the number of manufacturers producing similar cage designs.
New manufacturers introduced a challenge: not all C&C cages are created equal in regards to component size. This seemingly minor difference can lead to significant fitment issues with varying sized grids and connectors available, it's not uncommon for cages to look similar but, be just different enough to be incompatible. These discrepancies can result in loose grid connections due to thinner grid wire, different gaps between grids, and worst of all, unsafe.
We have always kept our sizing the same since 2003 as the original wire gauge thickness which is 4.5mm outside wire and 2.2mm inside wire, which ensures stability and sturdiness. If you're using different connectors/grids, check if you can fit 3 pennies in the connector slot. If so, our grids should be compatible.
See our article on C&C Cage Safety for more information on safe opening size for guinea pigs.
Ensure your C&C journey is consistent by keeping compatibility in mind. If you're not sure, please feel free to contact us sales@guineapigcagecompany.com.
